Shawn C. Jones, MD, FACS
President, Kentucky Foundation for Medical Care
In addition to writing of his personal journey with burnout in the book, Finding Heart in Art: A Surgeon’s Renaissance Approach to Healing Modern Medical Burnout, Dr. Jones also co-wrote a chapter on burnout for the Career and Life Planning Guide for Medical Residents. He has spoken on burnout at the ACGME, at multiple universities and hospital systems. Shawn was instrumental in the development of a physician Wellness Committee at his local hospital as well as for the statewide medical group, to combat physician burnout and was recently named Medical Director of Provider Wellness for Baptist Health in Kentucky.
Dr. Jones has been involved in the Kentucky Medical Association and American Medical Association for many years first serving as a resident representative for the KMA. He served on the Board of Trustees for 15 years, and was on the Executive Committee prior to being elected President of KMA in 2011. He is currently President of the Kentucky Foundation for Medical Care and serves on KMA’s AMA delegation.
Dr. Jones is an avid supporter of public health initiatives serving on his local county and regional boards of health. He has appeared on KET TV numerous times in support of SmokeFree Ky receiving a statewide award for his efforts in 2014. Shawn has served on medical mission trips to Romania, Honduras and Kenya. He is fluent in Spanish. Dr. Jones is an avid reader enjoying biographies, history, as well as books on spirituality.
